A strange coincidence

On the day that Facebook announced the launch of its geolocation capability ‘Facebook Places’ a survey from Ofcom has been doing the rounds which reveals that the UK population spends a quarter of its time on the Internet, primarily on social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook.

I’ve just been reading a really interesting report called ‘Online PR and Social Media Trends Briefing’ from the Econsultancy, which I must say I found very interesting.

One of the striking thoughts that I was left with was that if companies are not careful, Twitter use could really upset well thought-out corporate messaging/planning.

Next Monday will see the publication of Lord Carter’s initial Digital Britain report on the state of the UK’s digital economy, and already there has been much speculation about what it will contain, not to mention a few rather obvious hints. Some of this is down to genuine leaks, but the way that information has seeped out suggests a well planned campaign to build anticipation prior to its launch.
