Earlier this month I went Skiing in Utah with my family. I thought it would be a great opportunity to put some of Ranieri’s client’s products through their paces. My Ranieri colleagues enthusiastically went through their stocks to pick out products they felt would be most useful for my holiday. Before I knew it, my bags were filled with loads of Ranieri goodies.

We are often testing our client’s products in the office or out on the streets, but going on holiday gave me a chance to really put each gadget to the test.

Through the early morning haze I hopped onto the plane to Chicago. This gave me the opportunity to try out my first product as British Airways only provided me with some tacky black headphones, which produced a crackly, weak and muffled sound. I proudly produced my own set of etymotic HF2 headphones which isolated surrounding noise and created a really clear sound, they were very conformable too. I was able to listen to my inflight movie in peace.

One of the most useful gadgets that I took with me had to be the Mophie JuicePack Air as it kept my iPhone charged up for sooo much longer. I was able to keep an eye on my e-mails and mess around with my fishing app whilst waiting for my connecting flight. It kept my iPhone charged for most of the holiday. I would have been really frustrated with my iPhone battery had it not been for the Mophie JuicePack Air.

Once landed, we headed to the hotel for some decent sleep and yummy food. All refreshed we hit the slopes and I couldn’t wait to soak up the sun and snow. Before I left my room I packed my camera, camcorder, sweets and ski pass in the lovely Overboard 20L dry tube bag. The slopes were amazing, they were virtually empty and at times I was the only one around. It felt great as I didn’t have to worry about crashing into people – although my mother managed to crash into me once and we both fell to the floor. The Overboard dry tube bag was able to keep all my belongings safe from the snow as it is 100% waterproof.

On the second day, we all felt a bit more confident with our skiing abilities. I decided it was time to pull out the camcorder to get some footage. I used the MEDION LIFE camcorder, another Ranieri product, of course. Hilariously, every time I pointed the camera at my dad, he fell over, I have lots of funny footage that I may send into you’ve been framed. The MEDION LIFE camcorder was simple to use, there was no faffing around with which button to press or video tape to worry about.

On the trip home I wasn’t impressed with any of the inflight movies. I had Devil Wears Prada on my iPhone, so I decided to watch that instead. I used the Scosche KickBack, which is a case for the iPhone that has a leg on the back which enables the iPhone to stand on its side, rather like a picture frame. This meant I could sit my iPhone on the fold-up tray and watch my movie at a comfortable angle without having to hold it. A couple next to me were really impressed with the device and asked me where they could purchase one, I felt very proud to say that I worked for the company that handled the PR for Scosche.

Louise

Three of the team ventured to the Honourable Artillery Company (HAC) in London last night for the 2009 Macworld Awards, with everything crossed for the four Ranieri clients who were nominated.

As a first timer at the awards, I was very impressed with the venue, food, comedy and free drink on offer. The night got even better, with wins for both Etymotic and Wacom in their respective categories.

Etymotic was victorious in the Best iPhone Accessory category, for its partnership with ACS in producing the hf2 Custom Fit headset, and the judges had this to say:

“The hf2 is a phenomenal set of iPhone-ready earphones that deliver the kind of sound reproduction you could pay a lot more for. Add custom fit, personalised earbuds these will truly be the best earphones you can own”

The evening’s excitement didn’t end there, as a short time later another Ranieri client, Wacom, picked up the gong for Creative Hardware Product of the Year for its Intuos4 pen tablet. Commenting on this category, the judges said:
“The Wacom Intuos4 really is a giant step in pen tablet technology with its wonderfully responsive new pen and comprehensive software drivers”

It’s not just the winning though, we also want to congratulate GEAR4 and Mophie for their nominations and offer commiserations that they just missed out on this occasion.

So, final verdict on my first Macworld Awards. Back in one piece, a good time had by all and many congratulations to Etymotic and Wacom – we’re proud to be associated with these award winning brands.

Andy

Etymotic Research hf2 in-ear phones with ACS Custom Sleeves Etymotic Research, the leading developer of noise-isolating, high-fidelity earphones and headsets, today announces the launch of the hf2 custom•fit headset. Etymotic’s multi award winning hf2 headset delivers jaw-dropping clarity to iPhone and iPod users.

”All of our headsets and earphones are meticulously designed to deliver the most accurate, unaltered sound of any earphone or headset today. We constantly test our designs and those of the competition to ensure we maintain that position,” said Mead Killion, Ph.D., president and founder of Etymotic Research.

“Adding custom earmoulds to high-fidelity earphones could compromise fidelity, but we found a partner in ACS that allows us to maintain the Etymotic sound signature while providing an extra level of customisation,” said Dr. Killion.

ACS is Advanced Communication Solutions Ltd., a pioneering developer of soft custom-made silicone earpieces. For years, some of the world’s top musicians have turned to ACS for customised in-ear monitors that provide reference-quality fidelity and comfortable fit at safe volume levels. The explosive growth of portable music players reveals that many consumers have the same requirements.

“People are listening to their iPhones and iPods more often and for longer periods of time,” said Michael Shaver, Worldwide Director of Consumer Products Sales.

“Active users such as athletes and business travellers have extended needs. Most Etymotic customers can achieve a comfortable fit with the array of ear tips we include with our products, but the hf2 custom•fit delivers the same level of comfort that performing musicians require during live performances.” said Mr. Shaver.

This unique program gives consumers the chance to experience a combination of fidelity, noise isolation and comfort that has not been readily available until now. For many, the isolation of unwanted noise means preferred listening levels can be achieved at a lower volume. This launch is exciting for both Etymotic and ACS, whose founders are both musicians.

Etymotic Research’s hf2 headset combines industry-leading fidelity and noise isolation with an integrated microphone and music controls for seamless voice calls. The hf2 is a hit for both iPhone and iPod users around the world. The hf2 custom•fit includes the award-winning hf2 and an array of ear tips of different sizes. Also included is a voucher redeemable at any one of 300 approved ear impression outlets. Following a 15-minute appointment, customers are only a few short weeks away from experiencing concert-hall fidelity with a level of comfort that may make them forget they are wearing earphones at all.

Price: hf2 in-ear phones £99 and £90 for the ACS custom sleeves

Where to buy: Over 300 Apple stores around the country

Possibly when we get comments like this from our clients following one of our events!

(This is following the Etymotic/ACS launch this week…)

Dear All,

Please do not let my lack of correspondence today in anyway lead you to believe that I was anything but overjoyed with the PR event last night.

You said you would deliver the press – you delivered the press in numbers higher than I expected.

You promised to take care of the logistics – you took care of the logistics.

You promised the food and drink wood be good – the food and drink were excellent from what I heard.

You promised coverage quickly and that it would be good press – you were wrong, it was EXCELLENT press coverage.

You didn’t promise our party would be a bigger draw than Dell, Toshiba or T-Mobile’s – but it was.

The Ranieri crew went above and beyond the call of duty. I would like to reiterate everything said today by Charles and Andy about the event, the attendees, the arrangements, the organizational flow of the room, and the efforts you all put in manning a post while the rest of us kumbayas talked with the press or did impressions. It is work, but it was darn fun working with all of you.

In short, excellent job and my heartfelt thanks to Ranieri, Charles and Andy. We need to do more launches.

Thanks and Cheers,

Michael

Much like Apple in the mp3 market, my client Etymotic has the unique advantage of being the defaqto of in-ear headphones. Most journalists use Etymotic for their personal music listening, so when it is time for us to announce a new product, the tech journo’s are all ears (pardon the rather cringe worthy pun!).

We recently launched the hf2 hands free, high fidelity in-ear headphones (pictured below) that have since been given the title by many in the industry as the best iPhone headphones on the market. During the initial launch, the headphones were reviewed in Mail on Sunday, News of the World, The Mirror, Metro, The People, Stuff, T3, Loaded, MacFormat and lots of other top media titles. Since then, Apple UK has picked up on the hype and agreed to stock the product in stores and online.
