Interesting day today at the gadget show, not as big as I thought it might be, but my god it was absolutely rammed with people…

Didn’t really see anything new, however I am spoilt in the sense that the job takes me to ces, cebit and ifa etc…

One thing that did surprise me is the numbers, considering we are supposed to be in recession it dosent seem to me like any geeks really care! They and their wallets were out in force today! I
Watched a couple of reseller type stands and there were actually people queing to buy product!

One stand in particular that stood out was a home projector/screen company selling an hd projector with an almost ninety inch screen, awesome but a bit pricy at nearly 5k…

Anyway, looks like the power of tv can make an exhibition like the gadget show work and bring the punters in, so looks like exhibitions aren’t dead, we just need to figure out better ways to promote as proved by the successful gadget show!

Whats good is they pump out news in the forms of links, therefore you can have a look at things that grab your fancy on the go…I really like this style of news as I’m not one to sit and read pages and pages of features, I find quick soundbites are enough to keep me going on the all the latest and greatest…

If anyone has any other suggestions of sites that are particularly hot at the moment, let us know…

It looks like this year we are going to see the rise of the touch screen, the next generation TV (brilliant… so no sooner have we all invested in our HD flat screen TV they bring out OLED TV an energy saving ultra thin SUPER hi-def TV…i’ll start counting the pennies). It’s also supposed to be the year of the netbook, which is great news for our client MEDION. Don’t just take my word for it:

Our friends at T3 mag predict that 2009 will be a better year for tech than last. What could be better than the iPhone 3G I hear you ask, well take a look and see; http://www.t3.com/feature/the-hottest-gadgets-of-2009

Well I’m back from another trip to the annual Macworld and CES shows in San Francisco/las Vegas respectively. As I finally catch up with email I’m reflecting on whether the investment of flights, hotels and taking out a number of other Ranieri’s to the show was worth the hassle. Admittly we always have a good time, as PR people how could you not enjoy San Francisco and Las Vegas, especially when you have the chance to take out some old press friends plus meet some existing and hopefully new clients.

Although the shows looked their busy normal selves, the word on the street is that noone is going to bother with Macworld San Francisco next year, mainly because Apple will not be supporting the show, secondly its become a bit of an ‘accessories’ fest, which can be dealt with a CES? Is this true, I’m not so sure but Apple not attending is certainly not helping the situation. In fact I’m a bit surprised that Apple are chosing not to support the industry and Companies that helped to get them where they are today? Is this right? I know Apple is all consumer now, but they can certainly afford to do a Macworld San Fran and Apple Expo Paris in order to support the Companies that have supported them up until now? Surely?

Another thing I learn’t rather scarily is that twitter is taking on a new level. I don’t know what I think about the guy who was helping to rescue people from the Hudson river where the plane went down the other day, he’s certainly a hero, but twittering what he was up to as he was saving lives? Seems bonkers to me… (check it out – http://twitter.com/jkrums/status/1121915133)

CES was good mind. Firstly I always have a great time in Vegas, its not for everyone, but I love the place and its falseness! Again numbers seemed to be down and 10% according to the official figures, but if anything it made the show more bearable, ie you could get a cab when you wanted (normally you have to wait for hours), plus you can walk around and get time with people…something that has been more difficult in previous years.

Anyway, look out for the videos and Flickr to the right as I will be uploading some more bits soon.

ta ta

P.

PR agency employed to promote new wireless web access products

Aylesbury, UK, 16th January 2009: Ranieri Communications, the consumer technology public relations specialist, has announced that it has been reappointed by Datawind; just six months after the companies went their separate ways. The leading developer of wireless web access products and services has returned to Ranieri Communications in order to secure extensive consumer coverage for its PocketSurfer handheld internet device.

PocketSurfer is an ultra-thin device, offering fast internet access for consumers on the move. Initially launched in July 2007, PocketSurfer has gone from strength to strength and now boasts more than 30,000 active devices accounting for around 9 million page impressions each month. 2009 is set to see further growth, with the launch of exciting new products and its development as an ad delivery platform.

Ranieri Communications won the account back from the incumbent agency without the need for a pitch, and will report to David Elder, European COO at Datawind. David commented on the reasons for reappointing Ranieri Communications: “Having worked with Ranieri Communications previously we felt confident that the agency could replicate the successful launch of PocketSurfer when bringing these new products to market in 2009. The agency’s extensive range of contacts and proven track record in this field, not to mention its firm grasp of our business, mean that we’re looking forward to resuming our partnership and making 2009 a great year for PocketSurfer.”

Pietro Ranieri, Director of Ranieri Communications, stated, “Since we launched PocketSurfer in mid 2007, the mobile internet space has seen considerable growth as consumers become more comfortable with accessing the web on the move. The market is ripe for devices such as PocketSurfer, and we’re delighted to have the opportunity to help the company move on to the next level. The decision by Datawind to reappoint Ranieri Communications is a strong endorsement of our consumer media credentials, and in our ability to generate sales.”
