Soon we’ll all be flying in kites
Published - Wednesday, 03 February, 2010There was an interesting article in a few of the papers this morning from London based design company Seymourpowell. The feature looked at a new and possibly revolutionary method of air travel which is being developed alongside Samsung, although I had to check the date to make sure it wasn’t April 1st!
Seymourpowell and Samsung are teaming up to develop the Aircruise concept. The idea was to design a method of luxury yet environmentally friendly air travel, a ‘clipper in the clouds’ as it is described. These airships work like kites, combining wind power with drive coming from hydrogen powered fuel cells and solar panels to provide energy. These airships can hold up to 100 people but travel very slowly – a trip from London to New York would take 37 hours. They are intended to be more like floating hotels rather than a direct method of getting from A to B.
Boasting Penthouse apartments, bars, and a glass viewing deck, the Aircruise could become a reality by 2015.
The video is quite compelling but I have to say it does look a bit spooky!
