Some post Macworld and CES thoughts…

Published - Friday, 16 January, 2009

Well I’m back from another trip to the annual Macworld and CES shows in San Francisco/las Vegas respectively. As I finally catch up with email I’m reflecting on whether the investment of flights, hotels and taking out a number of other Ranieri’s to the show was worth the hassle. Admittly we always have a good time, as PR people how could you not enjoy San Francisco and Las Vegas, especially when you have the chance to take out some old press friends plus meet some existing and hopefully new clients.

Although the shows looked their busy normal selves, the word on the street is that noone is going to bother with  Macworld San Francisco next year, mainly because Apple will not be supporting the show, secondly its become a bit of an ‘accessories’ fest, which can be dealt with a CES? Is this true, I’m not so sure but Apple not attending is certainly not helping the situation. In fact I’m a bit surprised that Apple are chosing not to support the industry and Companies that helped to get them where they are today? Is this right? I know Apple is all consumer now, but they can certainly afford to do a Macworld San Fran and Apple Expo Paris in order to support the Companies that have supported them up until now? Surely?

Another thing I learn’t rather scarily is that twitter is taking on a new level. I don’t know what I think about the guy who was helping to rescue people from the Hudson river where the plane went down the other day, he’s certainly a hero, but twittering what he was up to as he was saving lives? Seems bonkers to me… (check it out – http://twitter.com/jkrums/status/1121915133)

CES was good mind. Firstly I always have a great time in Vegas, its not for everyone, but I love the place and its falseness! Again numbers seemed to be down and 10% according to the official figures, but if anything it made the show more bearable, ie you could get a cab when you wanted (normally you have to wait for hours), plus you can walk around and get time with people…something that has been more difficult in previous years.

Anyway, look out for the videos and Flickr to the right as I will be uploading some more bits soon.
