Lost without Twitter
Published - Friday, 09 January, 2009New recruit Andy Crisp has got us all switched onto the latest social media, web 2.0 phenomenon Twitter. It took us a while to wonder what was going on but now we’d be lost without it!
The idea behind Twitter is to let people know what you are doing, just like a Facebook status bar. This may seem slightly confusing and somewhat pointless but it had proved extremely interesting during MacWorld and CES. We have been able to get up to speed on all the latest watch phones and dancing robots thanks to links posted by the Pocketlint, Cnet, and Guardian Technology to name a few.
Twitter also allows you to send an instant message to someone you are ‘following’ and even post a message for the attention of someone which can be viewed by everyone, allowing you to partake in a general conversation. This means it could even be a good communication tool for work, although Jon Clements suggests that PR people should be wary of abusing this relatively new and fresh medium.
There have recently been a few worries about security as celebrity Twitter accounts have been hacked into, allegedly. However, for the moment, the Ranieri office is alive with the ‘Bing’ alert of new Twitter posts!
