Google launches Street View! ….or maybe invasion of privacy View?
Published - Friday, 20 March, 2009Google has launched ‘Google Street View’.. sounds great as you can pretty much take a 360degree virtual tour down any road providing it is included in the 25 major cities Google has chosen to cover.
Although this seems interesting and somewhat creepy that the whole world have the opportunity to see what is happening in a road near you, if not the road you actually live on, there is some serious concern in regards to privacy.
Initially it was slightly unnerving and a little strange for my liking, but after some thought I think it actually isn’t that much different from Facebook, Twitter or MySpace.
We happily sign up, detail our name, D.O.B, area we live in, relationship status, post personal wall messages, upload personal pictures, join groups and update our status on twitter and also re-tweet other’s messages as well as much more… we even make new friends!
So we sign up to world wide social networks and happily detail our identity and personal information… Is Google Street View any different in regards to privacy?
Or is it more of an issue that we werent asked before we were broadcasted world wide?
Whats your thoughts?
Khristina.
